DIY Pendant Lights: Creative Lighting Ideas for Any Room

There are many ways to create DIY pendant lights, but here are two simple methods that still deliver beautiful results.

DIY Dollar Tree Pendant Light

Along with the basic supplies mentioned earlier, you’ll need the following materials to decorate your pendant light:

  • Dollar Tree chopping mats (about 5 pieces)
  • Lid from an empty can
  • Gold reflective paper
  • Glitter
  • Mod Podge
  • Hot glue gun
  • Zip ties
  • Acrylic box
  • Remote-controlled push lights
  • Fishing line
  • Empty masking tape roll

Instructions

1. Prepare the shapes
Use the lid from an empty can as a template to trace and cut shapes from the chopping mats. For best results, cut on the rough side so the materials adhere more easily.

2. Apply Mod Podge and glitter
Coat each cut-out shape with Mod Podge, then sprinkle glitter over the surface. Let them dry for about an hour before shaking off any excess glitter.

3. Create holes for hanging
Drill small holes into each glittered piece to prepare them for assembly.

4. Prepare the dowels
Wrap the dowels with gold reflective paper, securing it with a hot glue gun. Then attach cup hooks to the dowels to hold the decorative pieces.

5. Assemble the pendant frame
Spray-paint the can lid gold and make a hole in the center for the dowel. Attach the dowels to the lid using zip ties and hot glue. Trim any excess length for a cleaner look.

6. Add the lighting components
Cover the acrylic box with gold contact paper and cut a hole in the center. Install the remote-controlled push lights inside the box. Use fishing line to suspend the structure from the ceiling.

7. Finish and install
Wrap an empty masking tape roll and mount it to the ceiling with a cup hook. Adjust the fishing line to your desired height and trim any extra dowel length if needed for a polished finish.
